Veterans Benefits at PBA
At Palm Beach Atlantic University, we honor veterans of our Armed Forces. Veterans add to the diversity and texture of our campus, and we are happy to have many veterans as members of the PBA community.
Veteran education benefits exist to support veterans, service members, and their families to access higher education by reducing tuition costs. These tuition assistance funds are a source of financial aid for both active duty and veteran military.
All veterans are referred to an Education Services Officer (ESO) in their individual military service. Following check-in held at the beginning of each semester, degree-seeking students are eligible for benefits through the Veterans Administration and can be certified by the VA certifying official.

Chapter Benefits
Montgomery GI Bill, Active Duty (MGIB)
The MGIB program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following release from active duty. This program is also commonly known as Chapter 30. This benefit is for those veterans who served on active duty after June 30, 1985, those who had remaining entitlement under the Vietnam Era GI Bill, and those who switched from VEAP before voluntarily separated after February 2, 1991.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill is for service members who have served on active duty after September 11, 2001.
Montgomery GI Bill, Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)
The MGIB-SR program may be available to you if you are a member of the Selected Reserve. The Selected Reserve includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine and Coast Guard Reserves and the Army & Air National Guards. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances.
Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program (DEA)
DEA provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service related condition. The program offers up to 45 months of education benefits. These benefits may be used for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship, and on-the-job training. If you are a spouse, you may take a correspondence course. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances.

Reservist Benefit
This benefit is for those currently serving in the Selected Reserves.
Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)
Provides educational assistance to members of the reserve components called or ordered to active duty in response to a war or national emergency (contingency operations) as declared by the President or Congress.

Palm Beach Atlantic University has committed to a maximum Yellow Ribbon Program match of $5,000 for undergraduate and Gregory School of Pharmacy students, and a maximum match of $3,000 for graduate students. This level match will allow fulltime undergraduate day, graduate, and pharmacy students to receive aid up to, but not exceeding, tuition and fees for fall and spring semesters only minus the Post 9/11 GI Bill (Ch.33) of $28,937.09. PBA will award a Yellow Ribbon Grant up to 50% as the institutional match.
FAQs about Veterans Benefits
If an eligible Service member decides to use Tuition Assistance, PBA will enroll the student only after the TA is approved by the individual’s Service. Service members will be solely responsible for all tuition costs without this prior approval. This requirement does not prohibit PBA from pre-registering a Service member in a course in order to secure a slot in the course. If the Service member is enrolled before the appropriate Service approves Military TA, then the Service member could be responsible for the tuition. All Military TA must be requested and approved prior to the start date of the course. The Military TA is approved on a course-by-course basis and only for the specific course(s) and class dates that a Service member requests. If a military student “self-identifies” their eligibility and the Service has not approved the funding, then the Service member will be solely responsible for all tuition costs, not the Service.
Students must apply using the standard GI Bill forms. Forms can be downloaded via the web. Students can also apply online using VONAPP or Veterans Online Application.
If this is your first time applying for GI Bill benefits, complete form 22-1990; for others (dependent/spouse), complete form 22-5490.
For all active duty students, you must attach a copy of your form “DD-214”. For non-active duty (reservists/guards) you must attach a copy of your Notice of Basic Eligibility “NOBE”. For all others provide dependent’s proof of birth certificate or marriage certificate for spouse.
